Gimenez's Future Uncertain as Lazio and Porto Express Loan Interest
AC Milan has received inquiries from both FC Porto and Lazio regarding striker Santiago Gimenez. However, the Italian club's decision hinges on whether they are willing to sanction a loan deal for the player.
Gimenez was acquired in January 2025 from Feyenoord for a significant fee of β¬30.2 million plus add-ons. Despite the investment, the Mexico international has not yet met expectations.
During his tenure, he managed seven goals and six assists in 37 competitive appearances. A serious ankle injury requiring surgery in December significantly hampered his progress last term.
Gimenez Seeks Regular Playing Time
With the recent acquisition of Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain, it appears increasingly unlikely that Gimenez will secure a regular starting spot at Milan this season.
Currently, two clubs have reportedly approached Milan to gauge Gimenez's availability.
According to Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo PedullΓ , Lazio has shown interest but can only accommodate Gimenez on a dry loan, meaning without an option to purchase him permanently.
Such a move could provide Gimenez with the opportunity to gain consistent playing time in Serie A, adapt to the league, and potentially enhance his market value.
FC Porto is the other contender. The Portuguese club is currently facing challenges due to an injury to Samu Aghehowa Omorodion and is actively seeking an alternative forward.
Agent Jorge Mendes, who was instrumental in facilitating Goncalo Ramos' transfer, is reportedly involved in assisting with the negotiations for Gimenez.
It remains to be seen whether Milan will agree to a loan agreement without an obligation to buy at the season's end, as the club requires player sales to generate funds for other squad reinforcements.
