Lazio has initiated contact with free agent Mauro Icardi to gauge his interest in returning to Serie A following the expiration of his contract with Galatasaray.

The Rome-based club is actively searching for a new striker and, operating with a constrained budget, is prioritizing the recruitment of players available on a free transfer.

According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Lazio's management has reached out to Icardi's representatives to inquire about his salary expectations. A significant hurdle in any potential deal is Icardi's preference to join a club competing in the Champions League. However, the prospect of regular first-team action could influence his decision.

Throughout his career in Serie A, the Argentine forward has an impressive record, having scored 121 goals and provided 31 assists in 219 appearances.

Despite suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear in November 2024, Icardi still managed to score 16 goals in 47 matches for Galatasaray last season. The 33-year-old international is well-acquainted with Italian football, having begun his European journey at Sampdoria in 2011 after emerging from the Barcelona youth system.

He was transferred to Inter Milan for €13 million in 2013. However, off-field issues led to his move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. Icardi then played for Galatasaray from 2022 until his contract concluded in June 2026.
