Ligue 1 Referee Faces Suspended Prison Sentence for Alleged Domestic Violence
Abdelatif Kherradji, a referee known for officiating Ligue 1 matches, appeared before the Nîmes Correctional Court on Friday to face charges of domestic violence. This follows an RMC Sport report from July 18th. The public prosecutor has requested an eighteen-month suspended prison sentence.
Kherradji, accustomed to the Ligue 1 football fields on weekends, was summoned to the Nîmes Correctional Court to answer for alleged domestic violence, as reported by RMC Sport on July 18th. Placed under judicial supervision since May 15th, the referee is accused of two acts of violence, one of which, causing no incapacitation, occurred on March 13th.
It is alleged that Kherradji grabbed his wife by the neck and pulled her by the arms and hair during an argument. He is also accused of being violent towards his partner on May 13th, reportedly by pulling her arm, grabbing her by the shoulders, and pushing her against a wall. These actions allegedly resulted in a temporary work incapacity of three days for the complainant.
Deliberation Expected on August 19th
According to our information, Kherradji also filed a complaint with a medical certificate documenting his own injuries, alleging reciprocal aggression to investigators. L'Équipe reports that the 40-year-old referee was interviewed last week by the federal referees' commission, which sought his account of events.
Currently on sick leave until August 18th, Abdelatif Kherradji will learn the court's decision on August 19th at 9 AM. The public prosecutor has requested an eighteen-month suspended prison sentence with immediate provisional execution and a requirement for treatment.
