Chivu's Halftime Talk Sparks Inter's Comeback Against Roma

Cristian Chivu indicated he strongly addressed Inter during the halftime break when they trailed 2-0, motivating the team to secure a 2-2 draw against Roma. "Certain things remain between me and the players."

The Nerazzurri displayed both their strengths and weaknesses at the Stadio Olimpico. Manu Koné scored twice, leaving Inter trailing 2-0 for the fourth consecutive match across Serie A and the Champions League.

Despite this pattern, they only lost one of those games, a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid. In the match against Roma, Lautaro Martinez netted twice to salvage a thrilling 2-2 draw in this significant league encounter.

“I’ll start with the second half, as I told the players my thoughts on the first half during the break, and that conversation stays private,” Chivu told DAZN Italia.

“It's the absolute truth, it's what I think, and I'm convinced they know it.”

It's clear the coach delivered a forceful message in the Stadio Olimpico dressing room.

“I’ll focus on the second half, which showed remarkable attitude, grit, and character. We faced a strong opponent, we understand Roma's significance, and it was an entertaining game.”

“I believe that in the second half, we showed more than we have this season. We must build on that. I repeat, some things are just between me and the players, but it’s a valuable point earned in a notoriously difficult venue.”

While their resilience is noteworthy, it's concerning that Inter requires such a dramatic comeback situation to ignite their performance. They have conceded nine goals in their last four competitive matches.

“We need to improve our initial approach, understanding the opponent's intensity. I’m not asking us to be more intense, but at least to match them,” Chivu added.

“Our league position at this time last year was actually worse than it is now. Remember, we have 13 points after playing direct rivals like Napoli and Roma. There’s significant work ahead, we acknowledge that, but I will take the positives from our second-half performance.”

The reigning Italian champions remain at the top of the league table with 13 points, level with Roma. Como and Lazio could also reach this total by the end of the weekend.

“I won’t reveal what was said in the dressing room, but everyone knows what we failed to do in the first half. There are always two phases of play, with and without the ball, and we must perform better when we don’t have possession.”

A minute of silence was observed before the match to honor Sandro Mazzola, the Inter legend who had recently expressed a wish to see the club win another Scudetto and Champions League.
