Roberto Mancini's Mother Celebrates His Return to the Italy Bench: 'Hoping for Another Triumph'
Roberto Mancini's mother, Marianna Puolo, has expressed her immense happiness regarding her son's reappointment as the head coach of the Italian national team. She shared that the past year was difficult for him while coaching Al-Sadd in Qatar. The official announcement of Mancini's return was made by FIGC President Giovanni MalagΓ², with Claudio Ranieri appointed as the technical director of Club Italia.
This marks a significant comeback for Mancini, who previously led Italy to victory in EURO 2020 during his tenure from 2018 to 2023. He then transitioned to coaching the Saudi Arabia national team, followed by a stint with Qatar Stars League club Al-Sadd.
"I am very happy," Marianna Puolo told the news agency ANSA. "It is also better because he can stay closer to us. Last year was terrible, with the war around those parts."
Despite the success of winning silverware during his previous time with the Nazionale, some fans were disappointed by Mancini's sudden departure for Saudi Arabia. However, his mother defended him, stating, "He is a serious person. When he says what he can and will do, he really means it. Having said that, you need to be able to count on the right people too for a winning project."
The FIGC's commitment to revitalizing and transforming youth academies resonates with Mancini's mother, who believes in the importance of developing local talent. "We must get back to discovering and cultivating Italian talent. Once upon a time, there were people who could identify these lads with more quality, and that work needs to be relaunched today," she remarked.
Reflecting on Mancini's own journey, his mother recalled his early passion for the sport, stating, "Even when he was a kid, he gave everything, he had football in his blood. His father Aldo always accompanied him everywhere, that was an extraordinary support."
"Now I hope he can achieve another great triumph, Iβd love that so much. All I will tell him is good luck," concluded Mancini's mother.
