Violent Tackle on Elanga, Mass Brawl Erupts During Valencia vs. Newcastle Friendly

A dangerous tackle on Anthony Elanga shortly before halftime in Newcastle's friendly match against Valencia on Saturday evening sparked a widespread altercation. José Luis Gayà's reckless challenge, which resulted in a red card, ignited a full-blown brawl between the two teams.

The atmosphere in Valencia became incredibly tense during the friendly encounter. As the Spanish club faced Newcastle, Anthony Elanga became the victim of a horrific tackle from José Luis Gayà just before the break. The Spanish international, significantly late to the ball, made full-force contact with the Swedish player's shin, who had no chance to avoid it. The 24-year-old winger was stretchered off after receiving extensive treatment for his right leg. He had been Newcastle's standout performer up to that point in the game.

The incident, which occurred directly in front of the dugouts, triggered confrontations between players from both sides. Although José Luis Gayà was shown a red card, it did little to quell the anger of the Newcastle players. Substitutes immediately left the bench and engaged with Valencia's players and staff.

It was a bitter end to the first half for Newcastle and their newly appointed coach, Matthias Jaissle. However, according to The Daily Mail, initial reports offer some reassurance. Contrary to fears of a severe injury, Anthony Elanga was reportedly able to walk to the dressing room at halftime and has thankfully avoided a serious setback.

Newcastle, who finished 12th in the Premier League last season, were trailing 1-0 at the interval. However, they equalized shortly after the restart and went on to secure a victory with two goals from Yoane Wissa, finding the net again with fifteen minutes remaining.

It remains to be seen whether Anthony Elanga will be available for the season opener on August 23rd against Liverpool. Prior to that, the Magpies have three more pre-season fixtures scheduled against Everton, Leverkusen, and Strasbourg.
