Donyell Malen Out of Netherlands Squad Due to Injury
Roma forward Donyell Malen will not join the Netherlands for the Nations League tournament, having withdrawn due to an injury. The announcement came unexpectedly from the official Oranje website, as Malen did not appear to be hurt after Roma's 2-2 draw with Inter on Saturday.
The specific nature of his injury remains undisclosed, but he has been removed from the Netherlands squad for the upcoming Nations League matches. The team is in Group 2 alongside Germany, Serbia, and Greece, with their campaign starting against Germany on September 24.
Guus Til and Mexx Meerdink have been called up to replace Malen and the previously injured Justin Kluivert.
The 27-year-old has been in impressive form for Roma this season, scoring six goals in five Serie A appearances and providing one assist in a Champions League game. He has also scored 13 goals in 56 senior caps for the Dutch national team since his debut in September 2019.
This withdrawal marks a second setback for Roma, as Wesley also pulled out of the Brazil squad for international duty with a muscular problem.
