Le Mans 2-2 Lens: "Top Character, Top Reaction" but Toppmöller is Furious

Five days after their Champions League victory, RC Lens secured a point from their away match against Le Mans, ending 2-2 on Sunday for the 4th round of Ligue 1. Down 2-0, the Artésiens regrouped after a stern talk from their coach, Toppmöller.

In the 17th minute, N'Doye put Le Mans ahead. Their lead doubled in the 50th minute thanks to a goal from Kévin Rimane. Lens responded in the 66th minute with a goal from Guillaume Gillet, and then equalized in the 89th minute through Lens's own Modou Sougou.

Coach Toppmöller expressed his satisfaction with the team's fightback. "The first half was not good. We lacked intensity. But I told them at halftime that they had to react. And they did. They showed great character and reaction in the second half." He added, "It's a point gained, but we should have won this game. We were too passive in the first half."

The draw leaves Lens in 10th place in the league standings.

They responded by showing significant character and a strong reaction in the second half." He acknowledged, "It's a point secured, but we should have secured victory. We were too passive initially."

The result places Lens 10th in the league table.
