Milan Denies Legendary Captain Baresi Has Died, Denounces False Rumours
AC Milan has been compelled to release an official statement refuting circulating social media rumors that their legendary captain and honorary vice president, Franco Baresi, has passed away. The fabricated reports had suggested that Baresi, 66, had died.
This false information emerged despite Baresi revealing in August 2025 that he had undergone surgery to remove a pulmonary nodule and was undergoing immunotherapy treatment.
On Wednesday evening, rumors began to spread rapidly on social media platforms, claiming the former defender's death. The frequency and widespread nature of these unfounded reports prompted the club to issue a firm denial.

We urge everyone to respect their privacy and refrain from spreading entirely unfounded information.β
Baresi's illustrious career was almost exclusively dedicated to AC Milan. He rose through the club's youth academy and played for the Rossoneri from 1977 until his retirement in 1997. During his tenure, he amassed an incredible 716 appearances, scoring 33 goals and providing 24 assists. His trophy cabinet includes three Champions League titles, six Serie A championships, two Intercontinental Cups, three European Super Cups, and four Supercoppa Italiana titles.
Since October 2020, Baresi has held the position of honorary vice president of Milan, having previously served in other capacities, including coaching within the club's youth academy.
