Lionel Messi has acquired a stake in Spanish second division club Club Deportivo Eldense. The club, currently 19th in the league, announced the deal on Thursday. This acquisition marks Messi's second ownership in Spanish football, following his purchase of UE Cornella in the fifth division.

The Inter Miami player, nearing the end of his international career with a final match against Benin, has expanded his football ventures. After acquiring UE Cornella, Messi's latest move involves Club Deportivo Eldense, a team in Spain's LaLiga Hypermotion (second division). The agreement awaits approval from the Supreme Sports Council, as per Spanish regulations.

'Promote Sporting, Institutional, and Social Development'

The Club Deportivo Eldense, based near Alicante, stated: "The arrival in Spanish professional football, as owner of CD Eldense, of one of the most important figures in the history of sport marks the beginning of a long-term project aimed at promoting the sporting, institutional, and social development of CD Eldense." Founded in 1921, CD Eldense currently sits 19th out of 22 teams after seven matchdays.
