Cuesta's hiring was always a calculated risk. He had no prior head coaching experience, having spent four years on Mikel Arteta's coaching team at Arsenal. He was 29 when Parma hired him. Gilardino offers a different profile: a coach who kept Genoa in Serie A for two full seasons before being let go, and who is familiar with the league.
