Parma Targets Gilardino to Replace Cuesta
Parma is actively searching for a new coach, with Alberto Gilardino at the top of their list.
According to reports, Parma has already made direct contact with Gilardino. His current contract with Pisa presents an obstacle, but the club considers him a viable option, not just a hopeful possibility.
Gilardino Was Considered Before
This isn't the first time Parma has looked at Gilardino for the coaching role. He was considered when Cristian Chivu left for Inter, a position that ultimately went to Carlos Cuesta.
Cuesta's hiring was always a calculated risk. He had no prior head coaching experience, having spent four years on Mikel Arteta's coaching team at Arsenal. He was 29 when Parma hired him. The club stated the recent departure was due to differing views on the sporting project, not just results. Italian media suggests these disagreements began early in the season.
Gilardino offers a different profile: a coach who kept Genoa in Serie A for two full seasons before being let go, and who is familiar with the league.
Parma's technical staff will lead training on Monday while the club finalizes its coaching appointment.
