AS Monaco, currently leading Ligue 1 after five games, aims to make a significant impact in the Conference League this season. Filipe Luis, the team's coach, expressed his aspirations for the competition in a recent interview with RMC's After Foot.

Monaco has had an impressive start to the season. Since his arrival this summer, Filipe Luis, who previously won the Brazilian championship and Copa Libertadores with Flamengo, has quickly made his mark. The club now sits at the top of Ligue 1 ahead of their match against Toulouse this Saturday, the sixth round of the league.

Beyond their domestic success, Monaco has also advanced to the Conference League's league phase. This European competition is a key objective for the team, as Filipe Luis revealed in his interview with RMC.

'A truly wonderful trophy'

"Many strong teams are participating. We have Brighton, currently third in the Premier League. We can mention Freiburg, who reached the Europa League final last season. There are several top clubs. But you are right, we have a real opportunity: to fight for this title. Yes, I agree with you," the Brazilian coach stated.

"Whether we must win is another matter; becoming champions is incredibly difficult. We need to demonstrate that we deserve this trophy. It's a truly wonderful prize. However, it presents a significant opportunity for us to achieve something substantial this season. We, at least I personally, take this competition very seriously. I hope my players will follow suit," added the 41-year-old coach.

During the league phase, Monaco will face CSKA Sofia, Freiburg, Nordsjaelland, Heart of Midlothian, Brighton, and Lincoln Red Imps (a club from Gibraltar) between October 15th and December 17th.

The team has experienced an idyllic start to the season. Filipe Luis, who joined AS Monaco this summer after winning the Brazilian championship and Copa Libertadores with Flamengo, has already made his influence felt. With him at the helm, the club from the Rock is currently at the top of Ligue 1, preparing to host Toulouse this Saturday for the sixth matchday.

At the start of this season, Monaco also successfully navigated the Conference League playoffs to reach the league phase. This competition is a genuine objective for them, as Filipe Luis communicated during a special interview on RMC's After Foot this Wednesday.

'A truly wonderful trophy'

But you've hit on something accurate: we have a real chance to fight for this title. Yes, I agree with you," the Brazilian manager commented.

"However, saying we must win is a different matter; becoming champions is extremely challenging. We must prove we deserve this trophy. It's a truly wonderful prize. But it represents a significant opportunity for us to achieve something remarkable this season. We, at least I personally, approach this competition with great seriousness. I hope my players will share this commitment," emphasized the 41-year-old coach.
